well! i haven't made a true photo-manipulation since...JULY. :O scary.. well, obviously i'm a bit rusty, but i find this a decent (if simple) piece as i haven't seriously used photoshop for nearly 6 months >.<

comments and critiques welcome and appreciated!
(yes, yes, i agree. the water splashes/ripples are terrible.. ;) )

Ooh I actually really like this one. Even though it is simple, it still shows a sort of elegance. I think you did well for not having used photoshop in a while.

Some Critique
~ The color scheme and tone flow together very nicely.
~ Background overall is well done.
~ The mane and tail on the horse look amazing - the highlights and clumps give it a very natural look.
~ It appears as though you used a sort of filter for the horse's coat texture. I think it works for this picture because the background is so subtle it allows the horse to stand out; but I think you should be careful with that in other manipulations because sometimes a clean, smooth smudge is more appealing.
~ As for splashes, I have zero idea how to do them (I have tried and failed several times) so for me, they look great. ^-^

Overall, I reallyyy like this piece. Keep it up!

oh, thank you so much! that really helps, and means a lot :) yeah, haha...i had just figured out how to do the filter, so was experimenting a bit :P not sure if i'll use it in the future or not... hehe :P

Awesome image. I agree with another comment, the clumps in the mane and tail give it a natural look. But I'm going to give you a lil critique. The paint like filter on the horse doesn't not go with the natural look of the gorgeous background.
But that is all I can see for the time being.
